RCG managed the redevelopment of the former Salem Evening News site, which included the historic renovation of the Central House, into eight residential dwelling units and 6,000 square feet of retail space and the construction of a ground-up four-story building housing 24 residential dwelling units and 7,500 square feet of retail space. The Tavern on the Square, Passage to India and Adriatic restaurants have successfully occupied the project’s retail space while becoming fixtures in Salem’s culinary scene. RCG obtained approvals from the Planning Board, Salem Redevelopment Authority and Salem Historical Commission to support this redevelopment. RCG managed two different contracting firms to handle the construction – one for the rehabilitation project and one for the new construction project. RCG secured financing and executed this project in 2007-2009 – a period in which few new projects were financed in Salem. Recognized by Historic Salem, Inc. for its contribution to the preservation of Salem’s downtown.
